From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.
A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.
Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.
Very supportive and helpful. Ian , Jo and Scott were great looking after my mum
Highly recommend this company. Excellent service. Caring, compassionate, respectful. Explained the process clearly and answered all our questions. Efficient, kept us up to date with the process and sent out reminders when I needed to be doing something but I never felt harassed. All the staff before the funeral & during were professional & caring.
We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to everyone at G&G for their support, care, and guidance during a very difficult time.
From start to finish, the team were compassionate, professional, and incredibly thoughtful. Their efforts helped create a beautiful farewell. We felt that everyone went above and beyond, combining professionalism with a genuine warmth and kindness that made all the difference. We are deeply grateful for everything they did and would highly recommend their services.
Thank you again to the whole team.
The service and kindness we received as a family from the moment I called Ginns and Gutteridge was faultless. We have used you for other family members before and have to say the professionalism, kindness, compassion shown is second to none. What has been a stressful and difficult time is made as simple as possible. Sara was simply outstanding in every way and made us feel comfortable and looked after. She is so empathetic, patient and caring. Thank you for everything you did Sara! The day went incredibly well and the whole team were excellent. Thank you to everyone who assisted to drive and attend the Crematorium. Every request was appreciated and respected. So sad to hear your branch will be closing.
Best wishes to you all Helen and family.
Ginns and Gutteridge were absolutely outstanding in the service they gave for my mum. The attention to detail was second to none and they accommodated everything both she and I had asked for.
They couldn’t do enough for her and me and gave her a fitting send off. She’d have been very pleased at the level of care and attention they gave to her. Thank you so much
